Frequently Asked Questions

Genrally Questions

What should I wear to class?

Our clients tend to wear activewear, but our main recommendation is to wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and that give you room to move, allowing you to complete exercises without restriction. For hygiene reasons we do ask that clients wear socks during classes.

Do I need to wear grip sock to classes?

We recommend that clients wear grip socks as in certain exercises the grip can help with stability and safety. Nevertheless, you are most welcome to wear your normal socks when attending classes. We do sell great quality grip socks here at our studio for $25 per pair! We have a range of different styles and designs that you can choose from and you are very welcome to purchase these when you arrive in the studio for classes.

What facilities do you have available?

We have three changing rooms/cubicles that you can use to change on your arrival and exit. We also have safe cubby hole spaces that you can place your shoes and belongings into during the class.

Can I purchase a gift voucher?

Yes, we do offer gift vouchers! You can purchase a gift voucher with a custom amount which someone can put towards a purchase of their liking, or you can purchase a specific new client introductory offer, single class or class pack.

To purchase a printable gift voucher online, head to our Mindbody App

Alternatively, you can come into the studio if you would like to purchase a physical gift voucher.

Contact us at studiojackson@thrivepilates.nz or on the studio phone at 0225097293 to organise pick-up for a physical gift voucher.

Do you offer studio hire for corporate sessions or events?

Yes, we do offer studio hire. You can privately hire the studio for your team outside of our normal class times. The studio has 8 reformers, and there will be one instructor teaching your class. Booking and Cancellations

How do I book a Private class?

We can assist you with booking your private classes! Contact us at studiojackson@thrivepilates.nz or on the studio phone at 0225097293 and we can provide you with our instructor’s availability.

What is your cancellation policy for classes?

As stated in our Terms & Conditions, we have a strict 16-hour cancellation policy for group classes and 24-hour cancellation policy for private classes. If less than 16- or 24-hour’s notice is given before the class, then the booking will be processed as a late cancellation whereby the class credit is deducted from your account.

If I cancel a class after the cancellation window, why do I loose the class credit?

We get that life happens. You get stuck in traffic, kids get sick, the dog escapes, the boss asks you to stay back to meet a deadline.

As a boutique studio, we pride ourselves in our small class sizes (you bet we do!). We love that we can give all of our clients individualised attention that would otherwise be diluted in large class sizes.

Because of our limited class sizes, our cancellation policies ensure fairness to all our clients (and to ourselves) and help to support the sustainability of our small business.

Can I extend the expiry of my class pack?

As stated in our Terms & Conditions, we do not offer extensions or alterations to class packs. If you would like to extend a class pack with a one-month expiry to a one-year-expiry, you can choose to pay an extension fee to cover the difference in cost between the expiry dates. Please note you will also be charged a $25 administration fee alongside the extra payment for the difference in price between the two packs. This extension fee is to remain fair to clients who opt to pay extra for class packs with the longer expiry dates.

Contact us at studiojackson@thrivepilates.nz or on the studio phone at 0225097293 for extension fee enquiries.

How many beginner classes should I attend before transitioning to intermediate level?

Our standard recommendation is for clients to attend ~ 6 beginner group classes prior to transitioning to intermediate level. If you would like more insight on when to make this transition, we encourage to discuss this further with the instructor(s) teaching your class(es) to seek more individualised recommendations. We also recommend speaking with your instructor 5-10 minutes before attending your first intermediate class so that we can offer more support if necessary.

That being said, even some of our most advanced clients continue to attend beginner-level classes as a refresher – there is no limit on how many you can do!

Classes

I'm eager to jump straight into Intermediate classes. Why do I need to attend beginner classes?

Even if you have extensive experience with Reformer Pilates, we ask anyone new to Thrive to attend at least one Beginner lesson first.

Attending Beginner classes allows us to get to know you and how you move. It helps you build a solid foundation in the fundamentals of Pilates, so when you progress to higher levels, you can perform exercises safely and effectively.

It is important to ensure group classes are at a suitable Level for all participants. For fairness to everyone in the class, we want to give everyone the right amount of help and attention.

Do I need to advance to intermediate classes?

Absolutely not! Everyone’s journey will look different, and beginner classes are for everyone - even the seasoned Pilates client! As your technique improves, you’ll find even Beginner lessons are challenging thanks to your deeper understanding of the fundamentals.

What is the benefit of private classes?

Pilates in a private setting is the creme de la creme if you really want to learn the biomechanics of the body specific to you.

We highly recommend attending private classes if you have any injuries, niggles or a specific focus (i.e., improving flexibility or strength). These are also a great opportunity if you’re wanting to hone in on the skills you learn during your group classes.

Our new client introductory offer of 3 group classes and 1 private session gives clients an initial taste of what group classes versus private classes can offer, and allows clients to experience their initial session in a private setting. This may give you a better indication of whether group classes, private classes, or a mixture of both suits you and your movement goals going forward. This is also a great option for anyone who may be feeling a little nervous about going straight into a group class if they’re new to Pilates or using a reformer.

Pregnancy Classes

Are your regular group classes suitable if I’m pregnant?

No, our regular group classes are not suitable during pregnancy, as they are not designed with the specific needs and safety considerations of pregnancy in mind.

If you’re expecting, we kindly ask that you do not attend standard group sessions. Instead, we recommend joining our Pregnancy Reformer classes, which are tailored to support your body safely throughout each trimester. These classes focus on strength, stability, breathing, and mobility in a way that’s appropriate for pregnancy.

At what stage of pregnancy can I attend the pregnancy classes?

In terms of how far along women usually are when they partake in pregnancy classes - it varies. We have women who attend the classes while in their first trimester, sometimes attending right through until their due date, and sometimes postpartum too. Therefore, attending these classes is based on your personal preference and how you are feeling. We continuously run these 8-week blocks back-to-back so if you decide to keep attending these classes you can continue to do so, but please be prepared to book in advance as space is limited and likely to fill up.

Do you offer pregnancy reformer pilates classes?

Yes, we offer pregnancy classes that run in 8-week blocks, whereby clients can purchase 8 classes for $259. Those classes run every Wednesday at 6 pm for 8 consecutive weeks.  Click here to find out when our next 8-week block of pregnancy class starts and enrol.
